What to expect

Damflask Reservoir is a beautiful example of South Yorkshire’s reservoir landscapes, combining open water, countryside views, and accessible walking routes. Originally constructed in the late 19th century as part of the Bradfield reservoir system, it now provides an important recreational space for walkers, anglers, rowers, and sailing enthusiasts. 

The main attraction for many visitors is the circular walk around the reservoir, which follows a mostly straightforward route alongside the water and offers constantly changing views throughout the year. Spring brings fresh greenery and wildflowers, summer creates a peaceful waterside setting, autumn adds colour to the surrounding woodland, and winter often brings dramatic skies across the valley. 

We’ve found Damflask Reservoir to be a location best enjoyed at a slower pace. While it may not have the dramatic cliffs or high viewpoints found elsewhere in the Peak District, its combination of accessibility, scenery, and tranquillity makes it a perfect destination for a relaxed walk, photography, or simply escaping the nearby city for a few hours.
