What to expect

Doncaster is one of England’s oldest continuously inhabited settlements, with its origins dating back to the Roman fort of Danum. Today, visitors can still discover traces of its long history alongside impressive Victorian architecture, modern shopping districts, and a thriving cultural scene. Highlights include the magnificent Doncaster Minster, the award-winning Doncaster Market, and the historic Mansion House, one of only three civic mansion houses in England.

The city is perhaps best known for Doncaster Racecourse, one of Britain’s oldest and most prestigious horse racing venues, which hosts the world-famous St Leger Festival each September. Beyond racing, Doncaster is home to a growing collection of attractions including museums, galleries, parks, and family-friendly destinations, making it an excellent place to spend a day or a weekend exploring.

We’ve found Doncaster to be a city that often surprises visitors.
