What to expect

Froggatt Edge forms part of the iconic chain of gritstone edges that define the eastern side of the Peak District. The dramatic escarpment was created over millions of years through erosion, leaving behind towering cliffs and weathered rock formations that attract walkers, climbers, and photographers from across the country.

The walk along the edge is relatively straightforward, following well-defined paths across open moorland with uninterrupted views over the Derwent Valley, Curbar Edge, Baslow Edge, and the surrounding countryside. On clear days, the scenery stretches for miles, making it one of the Peak District’s finest viewpoints. The edge is also internationally recognised for its traditional rock climbing routes, with climbers often seen tackling the imposing gritstone faces below.

We’ve found Froggatt Edge to be one of those places that never disappoints. The combination of expansive views, rugged geology, and peaceful moorland creates an unforgettable walking experience, while the ever-changing light and weather mean no two visits are ever quite the same. Where it turns from gritstone edge to woodlands, keep an ear out for a small waterfall that not many know about. After heavy rainfall, the small steam grows and the waterfall becomes more impressive.
