What to expect

Baslow Edge forms part of a chain of gritstone edges that overlook the eastern Peak District, providing expansive views across rolling countryside, woodland and nearby estates. The escarpment is characterised by dramatic rock formations, including the well-known Eagle Stone, which has become one of the area’s most recognisable landmarks.

The walk along the edge is relatively straightforward, allowing visitors to enjoy uninterrupted views for much of the route. On clear days, the landscape stretches for miles, while changing weather conditions can create dramatic skies and constantly shifting light across the hills below. You might even bump into the Highland Cows that call Baslow Edge home. Ensure you keep your distance, keep dogs on leads and do not feed the cows. They’re friendly and beautiful animals, but please be respectful!

We’ve found Baslow Edge to be particularly rewarding during quieter mornings and evenings, when the landscape feels at its most peaceful. Its combination of accessibility, scenery, and distinctive gritstone character makes it one of the Peak District’s standout viewpoints.
