What to expect

Completed in 1904, Langsett Reservoir sits within the beautiful Upper Don Valley and is surrounded by extensive woodland managed by Forestry England. A well-maintained circular trail of around 5 miles (8 km) loops around much of the reservoir, making it one of South Yorkshire’s most popular walks for families, dog walkers, runners, and cyclists. The route combines peaceful woodland, open reservoir views, and glimpses of the surrounding moorland that marks the eastern edge of the Peak District National Park.

Beyond the reservoir itself, a network of footpaths leads into the wider countryside, including routes towards Langsett Moor, Mickleden Edge, and the nearby viewpoints of the Peak District National Park. The area is also rich in wildlife, with woodland birds, deer, and seasonal wildflowers regularly seen throughout the year, making it a rewarding destination for photographers and nature lovers alike.
