Langsett Woods
South Yorkshire
Langsett Woods is one of South Yorkshire’s most beautiful woodland destinations, where towering conifers, ancient broadleaf trees, peaceful streams, and scenic walking trails surround the western shores of Langsett Reservoir. The woodland offers a tranquil escape into nature and serves as a gateway to the Peak District National Park.
Whether you’re enjoying a gentle woodland stroll, tackling the popular circular reservoir walk, or simply soaking up the peaceful atmosphere beneath the trees, Langsett Woods is a fantastic place to experience the changing seasons and the natural beauty of the Upper Don Valley.

Visitor Information
Practical details to help plan your visit to Langsett Woods and the surrounding Peak District landscapes

What to expect
Langsett Woods is one of the largest areas of woodland on the edge of the Peak District, offering a wonderful mix of towering conifer plantations and native broadleaf woodland. Well-maintained trails weave through the forest, crossing streams, passing beneath mature trees, and opening out to impressive views across Langsett Reservoir and the surrounding hills.
The woodland forms part of a much larger network of walking routes, making it easy to combine a visit with the popular circular walk around Langsett Reservoir or longer hikes onto Langsett Moor and the surrounding Peak District landscape. Throughout the year the woods are alive with wildlife, from woodland birds and red deer to colourful fungi and wildflowers, while autumn transforms the forest into one of South Yorkshire’s most colourful places to explore.
We’ve found Langsett Woods to be one of the most peaceful forests in the region. Its wide woodland paths make it suitable for families, dog walkers and casual walkers alike, while the combination of woodland, reservoir views and open countryside means there’s always something new to discover, no matter how many times you visit.

Explore Responsibly
Take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints!
Langsett Woods is a special place for both people and wildlife. Please help keep it that way by following the Leave No Trace principles: stay on established paths where possible, take all litter home, leave plants, rocks and wildlife undisturbed, keep dogs under close control around livestock and wildlife, and respect other visitors so everyone can enjoy this beautiful woodland for years to come.
