Burbage Valley
South Yorkshire
Burbage Valley is one of the Peak District’s most scenic landscapes, where sweeping moorland, dramatic gritstone edges, and peaceful woodland combine to create an outstanding place to explore. Stretching between Burbage Rocks, Higger Tor, and the Upper Derwent Valley, the valley offers a variety of walking routes and some of the national park’s most recognisable scenery.
Whether you’re visiting for a gentle stroll, a challenging hike, or simply to enjoy the far-reaching views, Burbage Valley showcases the wild beauty of the Peak District throughout every season.

Visitor Information
Practical details to help plan your visit to Burbage Valley and the surrounding Peak District landscapes.

What to expect
Burbage Valley is a landscape shaped by gritstone, open moorland, and centuries of natural processes. Well-maintained footpaths weave through the valley, linking dramatic rock formations, streams, and expansive heathland that burst into colour during late summer when the heather is in bloom.
The valley is particularly popular with walkers, trail runners, climbers and photographers. Burbage Rocks provide one of the Peak District’s best-known climbing venues, while nearby viewpoints offer panoramic views across the surrounding hills and towards Sheffield. The varied terrain means visitors can choose anything from a short scenic walk to a full-day circular route linking neighbouring landmarks.
We’ve found Burbage Valley to be especially rewarding during the quieter hours of the day, when changing light transforms the gritstone edges and mist often lingers across the valley floor. Its accessibility, combined with its distinctly wild character, makes it one of the Peak District’s most memorable landscapes.
