Visitor Information
Practical details to help plan your visit to Higger Tor and the surrounding Peak District landscapes.

What to expect
Standing at around 395 metres (1,296 feet) above sea level, Higger Tor is one of the Peak District’s most rewarding viewpoints for relatively little effort. A short climb from the roadside quickly leads to its distinctive gritstone summit, where dramatic rock formations overlook the Hope Valley, Burbage Valley and the surrounding chain of iconic edges.
The summit offers uninterrupted views towards Stanage Edge, Carl Wark, Burbage Rocks, Mam Tor, and the distant hills of the Dark Peak. Its relatively easy access makes it popular with walkers, photographers and families, while the surrounding moorland provides excellent opportunities for longer circular walks linking nearby landmarks.
We’ve found Higger Tor to be one of the best places in the Peak District for watching the changing light throughout the day. Sunrise bathes the Hope Valley in golden light, while sunset creates spectacular colours across the gritstone landscape. Even on misty mornings, the tor often rises above the cloud inversion, creating one of the most memorable views in the national park.
