What to expect
Over Owler Tor is one of a collection of striking gritstone outcrops found on the eastern edge of the Peak District. Its weathered sandstone boulders have been sculpted over millions of years, creating fascinating rock formations that are popular with photographers and provide natural viewpoints across the surrounding landscape.
A network of footpaths links the tor with nearby Mother Cap, Owler Tor, Millstone Edge, Lawrencefield Quarry, Burbage Valley and Higger Tor, making it an excellent addition to longer circular walks. From the summit, visitors are rewarded with expansive views across the Hope Valley, stretching towards Win Hill, Bamford Edge and the surrounding Dark Peak moorlands.
We’ve found Over Owler Tor to be one of the quieter viewpoints in this part of the national park. While many visitors head straight for nearby Surprise View, a short walk leads to this peaceful gritstone outcrop, where the dramatic scenery and wide-open views make it a rewarding destination throughout the year.
