Mother Cap
Mother Cap is one of the Peak District’s most striking gritstone rock formations, perched high above Surprise View near Hathersage. Shaped by centuries of weathering, the outcrop resembles a giant cap or mushroom, making it instantly recognisable on the landscape. A short but rewarding walk brings you to the top, where sweeping views stretch across the Hope Valley, Padley Gorge, and as far as Higger Tor. It’s a popular spot for photographers at sunrise and sunset, and a family-friendly climb for those looking to explore one of the Peak District’s more unusual landmarks.
