What to expect
Matlock combines traditional market town charm with easy access to some of Derbyshire’s most spectacular landscapes. The town centre is home to a variety of independent shops, cafés and restaurants, while the beautiful Hall Leys Park provides riverside gardens, boating lake, children’s play areas and open green spaces perfect for relaxing after exploring the town.
Thanks to its location, Matlock makes an ideal base for discovering the wider Peak District. Popular attractions including Heights of Abraham, Matlock Bath, Lumsdale Valley, Cromford and Chatsworth House are all within easy reach. The town also sits alongside the scenic Derwent Valley Heritage Way, making it a popular stop for walkers and cyclists exploring the valley.
We’ve found Matlock to be one of Derbyshire’s most welcoming market towns. It offers a wonderful balance of history, green spaces and independent businesses, while its excellent location means you can easily combine a visit with some of the Peak District’s most iconic attractions.
