What to expect

Wentworth has retained much of its traditional village character, with attractive sandstone buildings and cottages clustered around the village centre. The village green provides an open focal point, while narrow streets lead past historic properties, independent businesses and traditional pubs.

The village has a long association with the Fitzwilliam family, whose influence shaped much of the surrounding landscape. Wentworth Woodhouse sits on the edge of the village and is one of the area’s most significant historic landmarks, although the estate and house are covered separately in their own listing.

Wentworth is also surrounded by a network of country lanes and footpaths, making it a pleasant place to explore on foot. The combination of historic architecture, village life and open countryside gives Wentworth a distinctive character that makes it well worth visiting beyond its famous neighbouring estate.
