Set above the Hope Valley, right on the border of South Yorkshire and Derbyshire, this exposed viewpoint combines towering gritstone formations with sweeping views across the Dark Peak. What to expect
High Neb marks the highest point of Stanage Edge, sitting above the dramatic gritstone cliffs and open moorland of the Dark Peak. The exposed summit is surrounded by weathered rock formations, with the distinctive Stanage Edge escarpment stretching away in both directions.
The elevated position provides spectacular panoramic views across the Peak District. The Hope Valley lies below, with Win Hill, Lose Hill and Mam Tor visible among the surrounding hills. Looking west, the broad moorlands of the Dark Peak create an impressive backdrop, while the views towards Sheffield reveal how quickly the landscape changes from urban areas to open countryside.
Reaching High Neb involves walking across uneven and exposed moorland, with rocky sections and paths that can become muddy in wet conditions. The summit is a particularly rewarding destination for those exploring Stanage Edge, offering a quieter and more elevated viewpoint away from some of the busiest sections of the escarpment.

High Neb sits within a fragile moorland landscape that is vulnerable to erosion and supports a variety of wildlife. Please help protect it by following the Leave No Trace principles: stay on established paths where possible, take all litter home, leave plants, rocks and wildlife undisturbed, keep dogs under close control around livestock and nesting birds, and take extra care around exposed cliff edges. Always park responsibly in designated parking areas and never block roads, gateways or access routes needed by residents, farmers or emergency service vehicles.
