What to expect

Nestled in the heart of Monsal Dale, Monsal Weir is a beautiful stepped weir that spans the River Wye, creating a series of small cascading waterfalls beneath the impressive arches of Monsal Head Viaduct. The weir is easily reached via footpaths from Monsal Head, Hassop Station or by following the Monsal Trail before descending into the valley. It’s a popular stop on several circular walking routes, allowing visitors to experience the iconic viewpoint from above before exploring the peaceful riverside below. Throughout the year, the surrounding woodland provides a changing backdrop, from fresh spring greenery to vibrant autumn colours.
