Visitor Information
Practical details to help plan your visit to Monsal Dale and the surrounding Peak District landscapes.

What to expect
The valley follows the tranquil course of the River Wye as it winds through a classic White Peak limestone landscape of steep wooded slopes, flower-rich meadows and impressive rock formations. It is particularly popular with walkers, thanks to a network of footpaths that link the valley with nearby Monsal Head, Monsal Trail, Cressbrook Daleand Litton Dale.
One of the highlights of visiting Monsal Dale is the opportunity to experience the landscape from two completely different perspectives. From the valley floor, peaceful riverside paths lead beneath the towering arches of the iconic Monsal Viaduct, while the viewpoints at Monsal Head offer spectacular panoramic views across the dale and have become some of the most photographed locations in the Peak District.
We’ve found Monsal Dale to be one of the Peak District’s most beautiful valleys. The combination of dramatic limestone scenery, gentle riverside walks and abundant wildlife makes it a wonderful destination throughout the year, whether you’re enjoying a leisurely stroll or incorporating it into a longer walk through the White Peak.

Always park responsibly in designated parking areas and never block roads, gateways or access routes needed by residents, farmers or emergency service vehicles.
