What to expect

Woolley Woods is an ancient woodland dating back at least to the 16th century. The 33-hectare site contains a mixture of mature broadleaf trees, woodland paths and varied terrain, with the central route forming part of the wider Trans Pennine Trail network.

The woodland is particularly famous for its bluebells, which create a striking display across the woodland floor during spring. Other wildlife and plants can also be found throughout the woods, including fungi, birds, bats and wild garlic.

Paths through the woods are generally natural and can be uneven, muddy and slippery following wet weather. Some sections involve slopes and steps, so suitable footwear is recommended. The woodland connects naturally with the neighbouring Concord Park, providing the opportunity to combine woodland walking with more open parkland.
