What to expect

Originally established by the Normans in the 12th century, Knaresborough Castle played a significant role in medieval England before becoming a royal fortress under King John. During the English Civil War, much of the castle was deliberately dismantled to prevent it from being used as a military stronghold, leaving behind the atmospheric ruins visitors see today.
