What to expect

Opened in 1983, Rother Valley Country Park is a remarkable example of landscape regeneration. Formerly an opencast mining site, the area has been transformed into one of South Yorkshire’s largest recreational parks, centred around several lakes surrounded by woodland, meadows and well-maintained paths. Today, it attracts visitors from across the region seeking both relaxation and adventure.

The park offers an impressive range of activities. The main lake is home to watersports including sailing, kayaking, paddleboarding and open-water swimming, while dedicated cycling trails, walking routes and children’s play areas make it equally popular with families. Angling is also available on designated lakes, and wide, accessible paths ensure much of the park can be enjoyed by visitors of all abilities.
